Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
CM Suvendu Adhikari announced the formation of a high-powered committee to investigate institutional corruption and money laundering. Emphasizing a policy of "zero tolerance" toward graft, the Chief Minister revealed that the specialized judicial commission will be headed by retired Calcutta High Court Judge Biswajit Basu. The panel also includes a top-ranking Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Inspector General K. Jayaraman.
The newly formed probe committee will officially begin its operations on June 1, 2026. The Chief Minister made it clear that the state's administrative machinery will offer unconditional support to the panel. Furthermore, the Director General (DG) of the West Bengal Police has been instructed to promptly deliver any official documents, files, or state records requested by the commission during its independent inquiry.
CM Adhikari expressed firm confidence that concrete legal actions and major administrative steps will be executed based on the committee’s findings within the next 30 days. The police department has received a clear directive to immediately register formal First Information Reports (FIRs) under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Adhikari stated that the joint task force will meticulously track where state funds were funneled, decode the exact methods used for misappropriation, and aggressively initiate legal recovery protocols to reclaim stolen public money for the state treasury.
